The originator of the concept of Flex Design in the manufacture of men’s stretch denim jeans, fashion designer Clint Groom has worked with American Eagle Outfitters for 15 years. Currently senior design director at the company’s New York offices, Clint Groom learned his craft in the late 1990s at the Philadelphia College of Textiles and Science.

The school, which is now a part of Philadelphia University + Thomas Jefferson University, has traditionally offered one of the finest programs in its field in the country. The university’s program, currently operating within the Kanbar College of Design, Engineering and Commerce, prepares students to enter a worldwide market in textile manufacturing and fashion design.

Instructors at the school include accomplished artists and designers, as well as skilled research professionals. Students have the opportunity to take studio programs, as well as classes focused on the technical aspects of fashion production. From weaving to printing, fabric dyeing to materials science, they receive a well-rounded education in their craft in which theory is anchored in vital hands-on experience.

And because the school maintains established partnerships with major fashion labels, students can optimize their learning experience, and hit the ground running in their careers, by taking on prestigious internships.

Philadelphia University: A Rich History, 1884 to 2007 is a lavish book documenting the transformation of the textile school into today’s fully fledged university.
